Upcoming
Meeting : Saturday, May 12th 9:00am
at Parker Field.
April Meeting :
Previous meeting’s minutes were read and accepted. The Treasurer’s report was given.
Safety: Mike Kerns
provided and demonstrated an example of the solar system for all to view. Mike
indicated that the company he works for is willing to donate to the club if we
choose to use. If the club chooses to accept this offer, we will need to
determine a method for safe and secure storage. Options consist of a Job Box or
similar storage cabinet with a key or combination lock. The estimate for such
secure storage was approximately $500.00. Additional discussion to be conducted
at the May meeting.
Field
Report: Field was reported to be in
good condition but bumpy. Parkers had treated and fertilized field. We should
utilize the roller when mowing.
Committees: Bylaws - Tom discussed proposed changes to the club bylaws.
Some of those topics include:
Special thanks to Sterling and Jack for their assistance
with this process.
Old Business: The
AMA charter and insurance has been renewed for 2012 and the lease agreement
with the Parkers is awaiting their signatures.
New
Business: – Sterling read the history
of “Death Ships” and presented a photo and related information to Bob in memory
of his lost brother, 1st Lt. Walter W. Colpitts.
A special thanks was extended to George for the excellent
breakfast he prepared.
Michael and Pat Cusick applied for membership. Tom
Paulatis to sponsor. The vote was unanimous to accept their applications.
Close: Our next
meeting will be May 12th, 9am at Parkers Field.
The 50/50 drawing was won by
Ed Nelson and door prizes were won by Bob, Mike Kerns, Jim and Charlie.
Hangar News: Mike Speckhahn was buzzing the field with his
new “little” Fokker Dr. 1 tri-plane. Nice scale look, but according to Mike,
it’s a handful to fly but lots of fun. Mike will also maiden his Nieuport XI
bi-plane this weekend, weather permitting.
Bob Colpitts had his larger
version of the Fokker Dr. 1 tri-plane at the field the same day but Manfred Von
Richthofen (aka The Red Baron) was nowhere to be found.
Paul Oakes has joined the
ranks of our amphibious pilots (Sterling, Tony, Bob and Jeff) with his new
Hangar 9 Saratoga with floats. Nice looking plane and fast too. Bill Tyler has
posted some great videos of this elite group of pilots displaying their skills on
the club’s Facebook page.
Look for Kevin to maiden his
“kit” P51 Mustang with electric set up soon. Nice job Kevin! If it flies half
as good as it looks, you’ve got a real winner!
Sterling has answered the
challenge from Tony to rebuild the club’s fleet of Revolver 70s that recently
experienced a high rate of attrition. Look for Sterling to have his back in the
skies again soon. At one time, the club had as many as seven (7) of these very
popular mid-wing aerobatic planes being flown by different members.
Congratulations to Mike
Cusick, who just joined our club at the March meeting, for completing several
successful training flights under one of our veteran instructor pilots, Tony
Orsini. Mike not only made a near perfect landing on his first attempt but was
flying solo after just three flights with Tony. Looks like this young man has a
natural ability to be a good pilot and a lot of the credit goes to Tony for
stepping up to provide some excellent training. This is what it’s all about.
Future
schedule for Club meetings:
